THE LIBERATION OF MONTESE

The high rises of Montello and Mount Buffone in particular, represented the heart of the German defenses in Montese. On April 14, 1945 with the start of the final offensive on the Gothic Line in the Apennines, the Brazilian attack was directed precisely on Montese.

The bloody battle lasted four days and during the night between 18 and 19 September the defeated Germans retreated from Montello and Mount Buffone towards the plains.

To this day, many years after those events, strong feelings of gratitude and friendship bind Montese to the generous heart of the Brazilian people.

THE WIDESPRED MUSEUM...

Through villages and woods, enriched with monuments and the historical museums of the Rocca di Montese and Iola, runs the network of Places and the Paths of the Memory through 23 km of trails in the municipality of Montese.

As a dialogue between the past of a year-long war and a present towards peace, the Widespred Museum runs through the mountains and valleys by telling the hardness of the period from the summer of '44 to the end of the Second World War, in April of '45.

Montese, Bronze Medal of Civil Merit, in the final phase of World War II was the northwest edge of the Gothic Line, the last German

defense against the advance of the allies in Italy. The Germans arrived in Montese at the end of the summer of 1944 from the front of Tuscany, where the

first defenses of the Gothic Line on the Giogo and Futa Pass had been broken by the attacks of the Fifth Army.
